Dear Families,
We would like to extend a warm welcome back to the second term at Magic Years!
It was so lovely to see to all the children back in school again. We have been sharing our stories from the holiday break and listening to what our friends have been up to as well.
Our first unit of the second term is "Play", focusing on how we use play to make meaningful connection and come to new understanding in our lives. We look forward to another eventful term!
Please note that Sports Day will be on February 7th, 2014. More information will be sent out this month.
Sincerely,
Creativity Team (Ms.Pin & Ms.Aor)

Happy Loi Krathong
Friday, November 15th, 2013
Today the children celebrated the Thai festival, Loi Krathong. The children embraced this Thai celebration with an open-mind. They risk-takers by trying a selection of new Thai games lead by Mr. Chairat in gym. Then we enjoyed a lovely performance by our own parents as they helped play the musical instruments to accompany our singing of the Loi Krathong song. We were enthusiatic about joining the communal Thai dance outdoors as we did the Thai dance with our peers and family. We demonstrated our appreciation for the use of water, by floating our krathongs as we paid our respect to the water. As part of our celebration during centers times, some of the chidlren also took part in making the traditional Thai dessert, Bua Loi.

In the Creativity class we have been wrapping up our unit on "Caring for Living Things". After brainstorming ideas about ways that we can express our care for others the children agreed that using kind words is one way to to show others that you care. The children worked hard on making their good manners flower mobile of the words, "Thank you", "I'm sorry", "Excuse Me", "Please", and "May I?". We have also been working on our portoflio as we take intiative of our learning by selecting our own pieces of work that we would like to showcase.
Have you heard about the Math Monster in our class? He has been leaving the Creativity class children with some interesting math question for us to answer everyday. He has also been leaving shapes on our calendar. Check out our Unit 1 blog for more details about what is going on in the Creativity class. We will be tuning into our second unit on Passionate Communicators this week.

This past Wednesday we celebrated Bas and Shiek's happy birthday.
We hope that everyone is enjoying the long weekend. Next week we will be focusing on how we can take care of the others. We will be focusing on the learner profile 'caring' and identifying ways that we can be caring towards those around us.
Family Flag - Homework
Please make a photo collage of your child's family on the flag provided.
Don't forget to include all of those who share a close relationship with your child. It is important to involve your child in the process of making this collage because they will be the ones presenting this collage to their peers at school.

Today we made smoothies! A healthy snack, highlighting the importance of taking care of your body by eating healthy food. The children honestly shared their reflection about how they felt about the taste of the smoothies afterwards. Their reflections ranged from a big thumbs up (I really love it) to a thumbs down (I tried it, but I didn't like it).
We have been very busy this week, working on a number of different art projects and being active participants in all of our specials class. Please check out our "Unit 1" tab to find out what other fun stuff we have been up to.

Welcome to the Creativity Class Blog ...
We are so excited to welcome you all back to school and into the Creativity class. The children are already taking ownership of their new learning spaces and familiarizing themselves with the new routines and longer school day.
The children have spent these first two weeks back in school reconnecting with their peers, and forming new friendships. We are looking forward to a year filled with smiles and laughter as we embark on our learning journey together.
This year we are starting off with a lively group of 14 children. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. Aor, although a new face to Magic Years she is no stranger to the education world. The children have already welcomed her with open arms.
**Please be reminded that Back to School Night is on September 12th from 6 - 8 pm. **
